One K Defender Helmet Matte

My helmet is the most important piece of equipment I choose to wear. It gives me piece of mind, and my loved ones as well, that if I fall and bang my head in an unplanned dismount the damage will be mitigated by an ASTM/SEI approved helmet.

I replace my helmets every time I fall off a horse and hit my head (has only happened once--knock on wood), or every 5 years since the specialized material in them can deteriorate over time. When the 5 year replacement clock ran out over a year ago on my previous helmet, I tried almost every helmet in stock at Riding Warehouse in San Luis Obispo, which is a not too far away drive for me.

For my head shape and size, which is admittedly awkward, nothing fit more securely and comfortably than the One K Defender Series Helmet Matte. I bought my first One K Defender helmet in navy, and a second 9 months later in black for dressage and schooling. If I buy a second of anything, it for sure means I love everything about it.

Yes, the One K Defender Helmet has the ASTM/SEI safety certifications, but it is also pretty darn stylish. I love the look of this helmet, and the padded harness is seamlessly integrated into the sides and back of the helmet. The harness is adjustable with an easy to use velcro clasp.

The matte finish on the One K Defender Series is very durable and easy to clean up for shows and clinics. I store both of my One K helmets in my helmet/arena bag and neither of them have any scratches after a good deal of use each. To clean them up to look brand new, I use a damp cloth to wipe down the outside. I follow the damp cloth with a soft dry cloth so dust doesn't cling to the helmet while it dries.

The stainless steel mesh ventilation channels are in the front, sides, and back of the helmet. On the frequent warm days in Southern California those ventilation channels bring a welcome breeze under the helmet.

The lining of the One K Defender helmet is comfortable, washable, quick drying, and has anti-microbial protection. I've been throwing them into the wash with like colored items in cold water with a gentle detergent, then air drying. The linings are as plush and comfy as the day I bought the helmets.

I bought both of my One K Defender helmets from Riding Warehouse so I could try them on and compare to other helmets, but most large online tack stores I've seen carry One K's. There are several other One K models out there, from the One K Defender Bling Series with Swarovski Stones to the One K Defender Series in Suede.

Until next time, happy riding! 🐴
